We provided free, highly accurate COVID-19 testing administered by university medical professionals for all Danforth Campus students at the start of the spring semester (entry testing).

Following the initial round of testing at the start of the semester, all undergraduate students living in the St. Louis region are required to complete a university-provided COVID-19 test every two weeks for the duration of the spring semester (surveillance testing). In addition, we will provide testing for all students, faculty and staff who develop symptoms of COVID-19 at any time during the semester (diagnostic testing), as well as broader testing as needed for exposures to prevent spread within our community.

All COVID-19 testing on the Danforth Campus will be provided at no charge to students, faculty and staff.

In addition, the 1234 Kingshighway site is available to all WashU employees, students and family members for asymptomatic testing for a cost of $50 per test (which covers the operational costs of the test). Members of the university community may schedule this testing here. Learn more in the December 18 message to the university community.

Surveillance testing

All undergraduate students are required to participate in bi-weekly COVID-19 surveillance testing for the duration of the spring semester. Testing is scheduled based on students’ last names (see schedule below). All asymptomatic testing will occur in the surveillance testing tent located on Mudd Field (outside of the DUC and Simon Hall).

Students are only permitted to test once during their assigned weeks.

Students who do not complete their university-provided COVID-19 test during their assigned week will lose access to campus.

  • Students in Residential Life housing who do not complete the required university test will have their university housing privileges terminated and their campus access turned off.
  • Students not in Residential Life housing who do not complete the university test will have their ID card swipe access to buildings on the Danforth Campus turned off.

Surveillance testing exemptions

Students are exempt from surveillance testing if they are studying remotely and not living in the St. Louis region. Students who have previously tested positive, and those who live in the St. Louis region but will not be coming to campus, may also be exempt from surveillance testing. See more information about requesting an exemption under either of these conditions or request an exemption from COVID-19 surveillance testing.

Diagnostic testing

We also will provide testing for all Washington University students, faculty and staff who develop COVID-19-related symptoms at any time during the fall semester upon referral from Habif Health and Wellness Center or Occupational Health. If you have or develop COVID-19-related symptoms, students should immediately contact Habif Health and Wellness Center at 314-935-6666 or the COVID Call Center at 314-362-5056. Faculty and staff should contact the COVID Call Center at 314-362-5056.
