Dear Washington University students,
We are now ready to begin inviting all students to make appointments to receive the COVID-19 vaccine through the university. If you have preregistered with the university, you will receive an invitation today to make an appointment starting tomorrow through April 13. There currently are many appointments available on the Medical Campus during this time and we strongly encourage everyone to be vaccinated against COVID-19. This is true even if you have already had COVID-19.
At this time, all vaccines administered through the university will be Johnson & Johnson/Janssen, which requires only one dose. This means you will be “one and done” with one shot, and fully vaccinated in time for finals and the end of the spring semester. If you have already received one dose of a different vaccine elsewhere, we cannot administer your second dose, which you will need to get from the same location where you received the first one. We are only able to vaccinate individuals who have not yet received any doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
Once you are preregistered and receive your invitation, please schedule your appointment as soon as possible to avoid missing the opportunity to be vaccinated on campus while supplies last. The state distributes doses to suppliers each week and while we received a large number of doses this week, there is no certainty that we will receive additional doses or how many we will receive in upcoming weeks.
A few important things to know:
- Please hydrate and consume a meal before arriving for your appointment.
- Due to space limitations and the need for social distancing, please be sure to arrive on time. Anyone arriving after 3:30 p.m. will not be permitted to enter and must reschedule subject to availability of additional doses.
- There is a required 15-30 minute observation period following vaccination. Please plan accordingly to allow for this time.
When you have received the vaccine – whether through the university or another source – we ask that you upload an image of your COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card in your student health portal. This will help us if you are exposed to someone who is COVID-positive as we work through contact tracing and determine who does not need to quarantine. You can upload your documentation by visiting the Habif Health and Wellness Center website and clicking “Log in to the student portal.”
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter, and for doing your part to help protect yourselves and the rest of our community from COVID-19.
