We provided free, highly accurate COVID-19 testing administered by university medical professionals for all Danforth Campus students at the start of the fall semester (entry testing).

After this initial round of testing at the start of the semester, all undergraduate students living in the St. Louis region are required to complete a university-provided COVID-19 test every two weeks for the duration of the fall semester (surveillance testing). In addition, we will provide testing for all students, faculty and staff who develop symptoms of COVID-19 at any time during the fall semester (diagnostic testing), as well as broader testing as needed for exposures to prevent spread within our community .

All COVID-19 testing on the Danforth Campus will be provided at no charge to students, faculty and staff.

Entry testing

Residential undergraduate student testing

All undergraduate students moving into Residential Life housing were tested on entry as part of their housing check-in process.

Off-campus undergraduate student testing

All undergraduate students in the St. Louis region living off-campus in non-Residential Life housing were required to complete a COVID-19 test provided by the university during the first week of undergraduate classes, September 14-18.

Graduate and professional student testing

With the aim of testing all students who will be physically present on the Danforth Campus as campus density increases, all graduate and professional students who will work, teach, conduct research or take classes on the Danforth Campus were required to complete a university-provided COVID-19 test during the week of September 21-25.

Surveillance testing

More details on the university’s surveillance testing program for asymptomatic undergraduate students living in the St. Louis region were communicated on September 22. The testing will begin on September 28. (Students who are experiencing symptoms at any time should call Habif Health and Wellness Center at 314-935-6666 or the COVID Call Center at 314-362-5056 for guidance regarding diagnostic testing.) This ongoing surveillance testing will be conducted at the Danforth Campus surveillance testing facility, located in one of the tents on Mudd Field. For the safety of the community, the university will be continuously reviewing and updating our surveillance testing strategy as needed.

Entry and surveillance testing exemptions

Students are exempt from entry and surveillance testing if they are studying remotely and not living in the St. Louis region. Students who have previously tested positive, and those who live in the St. Louis region but will not be coming to campus, may also be exempt from entry and surveillance testing. More information about requesting an exemption under either of these conditions is available on the university’s COVID-19 website.

Diagnostic testing

We also will provide testing for all Washington University students, faculty and staff who develop COVID-19-related symptoms at any time during the fall semester upon referral from Habif Health and Wellness Center or Occupational Health. If you have or develop COVID-19-related symptoms, students should immediately contact Habif Health and Wellness Center at 314-935-6666 or the COVID Call Center at 314-362-5056. Faculty and staff should contact the COVID Call Center at 314-362-5056.
